How to Win the Battle Over GERD

Acid reflux is commonly referred to as GERD. It is that burning sensation you sometimes get in your chest, and even in your throat, after eating. This is most common after a high protein meal. This is because protein takes more hydrochloric acid, (HCL), for digestion.

When the gut is imbalanced our natural production of HCL is often depleted. Most people think that GERD is due to too much acid in the stomach, but it is usually the need for more of it. Age, Candida overgrowth, parasites, and a torn lining in the digestive tract can all be possible contributors to the reduction of hydrochloric acid.

Supplements that assist with the development of hydrochloric acid, and probiotics, which help balance gut flora can both be very helpful in battling the war with GERD. They are also safe alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs and their detrimental side effects.

The product Metagest  by the company Metagenics is an extremely helpful, safe, and natural solution to increasing HCL. By taking one or two capsules before meals, (depending on the size of the meal), the discomfort of GERD can be reduced or even removed.

Probiotics are a good choice to help balance and heal the gut, but they are also helpful in soothing the burning that can take place in the upper GI due to imbalance in HCL. I like Dr. Ohhira’s by Essential Formulas for this. The soft-gels, when swallowed whole, are made to sustain their way from the small intestines to the large. However, if you bite one open and swallow it the probiotics will begin to work on the backup of candida, undigested food, and HCL in your throat, chest, and upper GI areas. This not only helps to heal the issues at hand, but is also very soothing and can relieve that burning sensation altogether. It is also a safer alternative.                                                                  Karen-Thomas-Image
