Dental patients are always looking for the most bio-compatible material to replace their missing teeth. Zirconia is the best choice for dental restoration.
To restore broken or missing teeth dentists use a myriad of different materials. Some of these materials are biocompatible but not very strong and break down and need to be replaced often.
Today we now have a fully bio-compatible material that is also very long lasting and aesthetically pleasing. The material is called Zirconia and it behaves like a metal but has the appearance of a ceramic.
Single crowns have been fabricated with this material for 6-7 years with great success.
Until recently it was not possible to make a full set of teeth with the new material and there were only a handful of dental laboratories in the US offering this technique.
The Prettau® Zirconia dental restorations are made of safe, biocompatible materials. They have an extremely high flexural and tensile strength, and the non-porous design is resistant to chipping, cracking, and staining. The restorations have a smooth exterior, which prevents abrasion to surrounding teeth and gum tissue. In addition, Zirconia is multicolored, highly translucent, and natural looking; The Permadontic’s technicians use custom coloring techniques for seamless integration into the patient’s smile.
When put through rigorous laboratory testing, zirconia restorations had a 200 percent higher bending strength than other materials like titanium and acrylic restorations. Prettau® zirconia can better withstand the normal wear and tear on teeth from chewing and biting.. Because of their enhanced durability and strength, zirconia restorations last longer than other dental materials.
Aesthetically, zirconia dental restorations look extremely natural. The optimized microstructure of the zirconia produces greater translucency, so the restorations reflect light in the same manner as natural teeth. This gives zirconia restorations an incredibly life-like appearance. Further, the restorations can be color matched to the patient’s existing teeth.
Due to the non-abrasive nature of the material, zirconia restorations offer a level of comfort that is unmatched.
Now, The Permadontics Implant Center in San Diego has installed a suite of equipment which enables them to design and produce these full arch restorations on site in their Implant Center. They prefer zirconia over most other materials in a typical restoration.
