Why Cooking with Solar Ovens are Best

Cooking using solar energy is really the safest, simplest and most convenient way to cook food. You don’t have to use any kind of fuel. You don’t have to be in your kitchen, you can be in your backyard, instead. Lots of people in our culture choose solar for these types of reasons.

But, remember that there are millions of people who live all around the world who would need to walk for miles just to find wood to burn or need to spend a huge amount of their very limited income for fuel.  They can easily turn to solar cooking to solve these kinds of problems. Think about all the people who don’t have safe drinking water. Solar heating is a for them is a blessing. Solar water pasteurization saves their lives. Yes, there are lots of reasons to cook with the sun. The global benefits are profound.

Simple sun ovens help preserve the nutrients in foods. When you barbecue food, the smoky fires irritate your lungs and eyes and may cause diseases. Solar ovens are smoke-free. They can help keep your house cool in the summer because the cooking is all happening outside.

It is called a solar oven but its much more than that because the food may be baked, boiled, or steamed at cooking temperatures of 360° F to 400° F. When the particular oven has not movement or air, it allows food to stay moist, tender and full of flavor. Roasts that are solar-baked are tastier and more succulent. Sun-baked bread has an amazing taste and texture. The food sunning itself in an oven will please your senses as well.

Solar oven temperatures rise slowly and evenly. This means that it allows time to break down complex carbohydrates into simple sugars and emitting subtle natural flavors. Because the temperature is even, there’s no burning.

Here are different ways you can cook using solar energy. You can refocus the oven to follow the sun every 25 to 30 minutes. When you do this, the cooking time is very similar to cooking with a conventional stove or oven.

Or you can use the solar oven for slow cooking, almost like using a crock-pot. What you can do is prepare dinner and put it in the sun oven. Then point the oven to where the sun will be approximately halfway through the time you will be gone. Leave it there and you will find a slow cooked dinner ready for you.

At a moderate temperatures food does not need to be stirred and it won’t burn. You can easily place the food in a solar cooker and leave it to cook, unattended, for several hours and attend to other needs during that time.. You can put the oven on in the morning and return home in the late afternoon and there will be a hot meal ready to eat.
