Probiotic Sources

Probiotics are live microorganisms that can positively impact your health. While most probiotics are bacteria, there are also strains of yeast that benefit your body. You can find probiotics in many food products, including fermented dairy and soy products. They are abundant in products like kimchee and sauerkraut. They can also be purchased in supplement form and this can be a very effective form of treating such things as IBS and Colitis. The bacteria and yeast are well-studied strains that have been specially prepared to survive the journey through the stomach into the intestines where they can grow.  There are many different strains of probiotics, but the most common strains available today in are Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.

OTHER PROBIOTIC SUPPLEMENTS

Probiotics also come in supplement form that you can pick up at any vitamin retailer. Some you can find right on the shelf, while others are kept refrigerated. If you are unsure what to buy ask a professionals. As with any supplement, speak to your physician before taking anything. Still not sure where to get the best probiotic sources. Try buttermilk, pickles, tempeh, yogurts, apple cider vinegar, miso, kombucha, kefir, or cod liver oil.
