1. Reduce Pain and Calm Inflammation.

Use natural supplements with no harmful side effects: Serrapeptase, FYI from Garden of LifeAloe Complete are all effective options. We also recommend Slippery Elm Bark Powder to soothe and shrink inflamed tissue and decrease bowel transit time. All of these supplements are natural and have no long term side effects like most over the counter and prescription NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs) do.

  2. Take Probiotics in Therapeutic Amounts.

Dr. Ohhira’s Professional Formula, VSL#3, Garden of Life’s Primal Defense Ultra, and Perfect Pass Probiotics are all great options. With any of these probiotics, you can increase their effectiveness by taking them along with a prebiotic. Perfect Pass Prebiotic will provide the food for the microbes and help them multiply and flourish in the gut.

  3. Hydrate

Often times during a flareup there are extended periods of diarrhea which can lead to dehydration and kidney problems. Drink more than the recommended amount of water daily if you are experiencing diarrhea. A good rule of thumb for staying hydrated is drinking half your bodyweight in ounces of water each day. For example, if you weigh 130 pounds, you should drink about 65 ounces of water. That’s about eight 8-ounce glasses of water.

  4. Maintain a Healthy Diet

During a flareup your body won’t be absorbing all the nutrients it normally would through food. Eat as healthy as possible, avoid processed foods and sugars.  Try eating smaller meals throughout the day which is less stressful on your digestive system than eating a large meal. For ideas on ways to reduce inflammation from any foods you may be eating, the book Breaking the Vicious Cycle gives an easy to follow game plan to do so.

  5. Support your Immune System

Use an Immune boosting formula that will keep you healthy while providing a proper ph balance in the gut.  We recommend Perfect Pass Immune Multi Capsules , or Powder and  Garden of Life Perfect Food Capsules  or Powder.

  6. Destress

Learn to calm yourself in healthy ways; i.e. yoga, meditation, exercise, acupuncture, massage, playing music or spending time in nature. Try the Stress Help Center Yoga Module so that you can develop a practice to do at home or take with you on the road when traveling. Need some help with meditation, there is a Relaxation Module that will help you learn techniques for calming the mind and body.
