Proceptin - Nutritional Data

Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement, take 4 to 6 capsules daily with meals, or as directed by your qualified health consultant.

Why Proceptin?

Proceptin nutritional supplement formula is based on comprehensive evaluation of over 60 research studies addressing dietary supplementation that promote sperm health. It helps to provide essential nutritional support for men intending to conceive a child.

About Proceptin

During initial sperm production stages, harmful oxidative stress on the tissues and organs responsible for reproductive function is a result of the sperm's free radicals. Molecules that contain at least one unpaired electron are referred to as free radicals. The robbing of electrons by free radicals can disrupt normal cellular processes and cause cellular damage in the form of oxidative stress.

The use of nutritional supplements, such as Proceptin, with the proper antioxidants may reduce the adverse effects of oxidative stress on reproductive tissue and organs, and potentially improve sperm function. Proceptin is the first physician-formulated preparation. It has been formulated to provide many of the nutrients which have been shown to support successful male reproductive function. It has been developed as a result of over 60 research studies addressing the role of antioxidants, and amino acid precursors in male reproductive function.

Proceptin is the only product of its kind containing the potent antioxidant Pycnogenol. Pycnogenol as well has been proven to improve parameters on semen analysis. Additionally it contains high doses of carnitine, CoQ-10, selenium & zinc, vitamins C, E, and B complex. Proceptin is recommend for men, when couples are trying to have a baby.

Proceptin is a nutritional supplement that contains a proprietary blend of phytonutrients.. Each component in Proceptin has been verfiied in clinical studies published in leading medical journals.

A study by Sagayan & Associates showed that a course of antioxidant therapy significantly decreased sperm DNA fragmentation by over 10% in men with a abnormal DFI > 30%. This study entitled Effects of Antioxidant Treatment on DNA Fragmentation Index was presented at the October 2004 annual meeting of ASRM and published in abstract form in Fertility and Sterility. The antioxidants and metabolic co-factors in Proceptin have individually been shown to improve one or more sperm parameters.

Male Infertility

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after at least one year of intentional unprotected intercourse. Did you know that approximately one out of six couples at any given time has difficulty with conception? Often overlooked, a male’s fertility can be a major factor in a couple’s struggle to get pregnant. In these couples four out of every ten men are likely to suffer from male infertility or sub-fertility.

In the past it was considered necessary to address the reproductive function of a man only if his sperm count was found to be low. However, now we know that count is not the only factor to impaired fertility. Motility and morphology also play a major role in a man’s ability to fertilize.

What is 'sub-fertility'?

Sub-fertility is the impairment or inefficiency, rather than an absolute failure, to conceive.
This means the sperm is not up to the challenge of finding and fertilizing the egg and so need help in this process.
Nutrition and environmental factors play a major role in a man’s overall health, just as they play a major role in the health of his sperm.

Lifestyle changes, such as
  • quitting smoking,
  • increasing exercise, and
  • maintaining a healthy diet
all promote these improvements.

Nutritional factors are especially important to improve sperm health. Many research studies have shown an improvement in sperm parameters as a result of taking specialized nutrients or nutritional supplements. An increased number of healthy sperms may increase a man’s potential to fertilize his partner’s egg.

Treatment of the male with the right supplements may even be useful in cases in which the fertility problems are due to functional issues in the wife like endometriosis, immune or cervical factors. Proceptin nutritional supplements may help to repair and improve sperm quality.

Infertility Factors In Men

Sperm Count

A man with fewer than 5 million sperm per milliliter of semen is often infertile.
A sperm count below 20 million is considered low. In these cases the men might be sub-fertile or infertile. However, it should be understood that a man may be sub-fertile even if he has a normal sperm count of between 20 and 250 million sperm per milliliter of semen.

Sperm Motility

The sperm’s ability to move is referred to as motility. The most successful sperm are those that move forwards rapidly. Rapid motion forward is defined as a sperm that is able to travel at least half its length in one second. Often, sperm are found to lack this essential aspect of motility and they end up swimming slowly or in the wrong direction, some even swim in circles. The sperm’s ability to move correctly is directly linked to its shape.

Sperm Morphology

The morphology of sperm is the third key factor in evaluating the role of abnormal sperm cells. A normal sperm has a head, a mid piece and a tail. A normal head is oval shaped and is easily distinguishable from the mid piece. The mid piece ought to take up approximately half to three quarters the area of the head. And the tail ought be about four or five times the combined length of the head and mid piece. When variation occurs, even if its just one of these areas, a sperm’s chance for success is greatly reduced as a 'miss-shaped' head or a deformed tail can cause the sperm to be a weak swimmer or incapable of maintaining a straight path.

The Sperm Cycle

Old sperm cells die off and new cells are created at a rate of about one percent each day.
Thus the entire sperm cycle requires approximately 100 days.
The final 75 days represent a period of maturation for the sperm cell.
This final step of sperm maturation, called "spermiogenesis", puts the fuel into the tank and completes the development of the sperm cell or 'spermatozoon'.

During this 75 day period of maturation, sperm needs large amounts of energy to fuel the mid-portion of the cell.
Cells that consume large amounts of energy often generate many free radicals.
These free radicals represent a form of oxidative stress on the tissues and organs responsible for the reproductive function in the male.
This is why it is beneficial to use dietary supplementation that contains the appropriate antioxidants and metabolic co-factors that may help to reduce these stresses.

Consider Proceptin with its proprietary formulation of nutritional supplements of fat and water soluble antioxidants, amino acid precursors and co-factors related to intermediary metabolism. It has the ability to provide these nutrients required to support successful male reproductive function.
