What is colostrum?
Colostrum is nature’s
first food for the immune system. ChildLife uses the
finest bovine Colostrum that has been naturally harvested
and especially prepared with Probiotics to enhance the
health and vitality of your child’s immune and digestive
system.
Colostrum is the pre-milk fluid secreted by mammalian mothers after giving birth. Colostrum acts to transfer valuable immune factors from the mother to the newborn to establish immune defenses. As our bodies age, supplemental colostrum can help replenish these stores.
Why bovine (cow) colostrum?
Research shows that bovine colostrum is not species specific and, therefore, is effective in humans. In fact, bovine colostrum contains many times more of the immune factors needed than human colostrum.
Do the newborn calves receive all the colostrum they need?
Yes, dairy cows produce abundantly more colostrum than a newborn calf can ingest. Dairy farmers know that the key to a healthy dairy herd begins with the calf consuming as much colostrum as possible. Proper Nutrition uses only the excess colostrum in their products.
How does colostrum work?
Bovine colostrum is known to mimic the composition of human colostrum, providing immunoglobulins (like IgG), growth factors, peptides, lactoferrin, vitamins, and minerals. Immune factors from oral bovine colostrum supplementation are not digested and absorbed, but remain intact and active in the intestinal tract. As such, colostrum participates in gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) activity, and therefore plays a role in both immune health and gastrointestinal function.* Just as colostrum is used to nourish and establish immune defenses at the intestinal lining of a newborn infant, children can use colostrum to re-establish those same immune defenses. Many children, like infants, do not have optimally functioning immune systems due to illness, environmental insult, or prescription drug use. Colostrum can be used as an everyday preventive immune-boosting product for optimal immune and gastrointestinal health.
