Established in 1986, Great Smokies (now Genova)Diagnostic Laboratory has helped pioneer the field of laboratory functional testing. Functional testing assesses the dynamic inter-relationship of physiological systems, thereby creating a more complete picture of one's health, unlike traditional allopathic testing, which is more concerned about the pathology of disease. Great Smokies Lab testing assists in identifying the root cause of chronic conditions. Functional testing also helps to develop optimal interventions to assist clients in achieving lasting health.
Great Smokies (now Genova) Lab tests evaluate digestion and absorption, bacterial balance and metabolism, parasite infection, yeast and immune status. Great Smokies Lab tests enable monitoring of those with suspected irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis), indigestion, malabsorption, and other GI-related problems like lactose intolerance, leaky gut syndrome and intestinal permeability.
Great Smokies (now Genova) Lab also run non-invasive breath tests that detect bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. This is a common condition that often underlies chronic symptoms of maldigestion and malabsorption, which include bloating, gas, diarrhea, irregularity of bowel movements, and abdominal pain.

Click for Printable DisplayGreat Smokies Diagnostic Lab (GSDL) is excited to introduce a new name and logo in April of 2006. We are changing our name from GSDL to Genova Diagnostics. In 2003 we changed the GSDL corporation name to Genova Diagnostics. That was the beginning of the identity transformation now coming to fruition. We have spent the past two years asking customers for feedback and have been told that:
As a global provider of innovative laboratory services, our name needs to reflect the advanced technology and services that we offer, as well as, our geographic reach. In addition, practitioners that are new to functional and integrative medicine have told us that a more contemporary identity is essential for success in today’s health industry. Many who know us well have said the same.
Today we are presenting a new name with a new logo that we believe reflects the advances in technology, expertise, and clinical contributions our laboratory has accomplished over the past 19 years. Even though our name is changing, rest assured that nothing else is. The same people and the same commitment to medicine remain. We value and respect the relationships we have established over the years, and consider you and your colleagues as partners in our success. You will continue to see us at the same meetings, supporting the same organizations, driving educational programs, and bringing new tests and services to your practice.
Over the coming months, as we make the transition from GSDL to Genova Diagnostics you will begin to see the new name and logo appear on requisitions, kit boxes, reports and materials. We will provide regular communication as well to keep you informed of the progress. The current phone numbers, web addresses and email addresses will continue to work.
As always, we value your feedback and welcome the opportunity to address any questions or concerns. We appreciate your support as we continue to build on the innovation of GSDL, for the future of Genova Diagnostics.
Sincerely,
Ted Hull
